Backpacking Low Cost in Burundi 🇧🇮 - How to get from Gitega to Rutana by bus

 From the city center we took a motorcycle for 4k to Parking de Gitega (on Maps.me) the place where the buses leaves to Rutana.

 The bus was leaving at 15:00 so we wait around 40 minutes till the bus was already full.

 They told us 40k for 2 people but we negotiated to 30k.

 

The bus left at 15:30 and stopped also in Gitega but was better to take it from the big parking because we found good seats. Once the bus stops in Gitega is almost full.

 

 

The journey was nice and on the way there’s a place where it stops and many locals come to sell extremely cheap pineapple -1.5k. Even the driver took around 10 pieces. 

 

The bus stops on the way every time a passenger wants to get off. There is a stop about 10 km before Rutana where you can get off if you want to reach Karere Falls. 

 From there you can also get to Source of the Nile, there are about 30 km left.

The bus left us at the main station in Rutana and the bus driver paid us 2k for a motorcycle and we get off at the central market. 

 Opposite we found a great hotel - no brand outside - it’s called Moonlight, right after the pump water.

I think the best hotel we stayed in Africa, brand new, hot water, wifi and big bed for 50k. They also offer breakfast.

 At the market we customize a pair of pants and a shirt for less than 10$, before leaving Burundi.
